compositor

Torrenga, Benno

Nacionalidad: Netherlands
Fecha de nacimiento: 1942-01-01

Benno Torrenga was born, grew up and studied in Groningen (NL).
After an initial short career in the field of applied scientific research, he studied clarinet, orchestral conducting and music registration at the Royal Constervatoire of Music in The Hague. Even before the end of his studies he founded "OTTAVO Recordings" together with two colleagues. Together they made numerous recordings with reknowned musicians.
After his studies he worked as a clarinetist, conducted amateur orchestras and gave private lessons.
After having left Ottavo he started his own private company "BTmusic" and in this capacity he made many recordings for radio broadcast and for smaller labels in the Neterlands and abroad. His expertise reaches from solo instruments to large symphony orchestras, for instance the Residentie Orchestra (The Hague Philharmonic) with Yevgeni Svetlanov and Neeme Järvi. Also notable was the recording of the complete orchestral music by Igor Markevich, with the Arnhem Philharmonic and Christoper Lyndon-Gee for Naxos, most of them premiere recordings.
Benno Torrenga has taught music registration at the Royal Conservatory since more than 25 years, emphasizing the musical aspects of making classical recordings, like organizing recording sessions, instrumentation, notation, score reading, etc.
